Something on Reservation- Just a view
I know I am a novice in this topic, but still I would like to present my views. Some 50-60 years ago, when India was recovering from its loss to the British ( India was looted of its culture and heritage), India was never able to recover from the loss of humanity and unity that occurred during the British.
The British segregated India and willingly or unwillingly created so much differences and hatred among various communities that it seemed impossible to unite again. The lower classes were looked down in disdain. They were insulted, tortured and thrown out on the streets to die. Only the high classes enjoyed all the luxuries and privileges that they earned from exploiting the lower ones.
There was an appeal for something called "Reservation". A policy which would allow the historically disadvantaged social groups and enjoy the status and privileges of the upper class. Thanks to BR Ambedkar who came up with such an idea that led to their prosperity. Reserved seats in education and jobs, benefits in the social world, all this brought a revolution in the country. The lower classes grabbed the opportunities with both hands and prospered.
Reforms in 1954 and 1982 helped them to challenge the upper classes in the social stature. But the question is
Is India still the same? Do we still despair the minorities?
Moreover, do you know every SC ST around you? How often do you follow casteism?
In many parts of the country, I won't say every part, discrimination on the basis of caste has banished. By discrimination I mean rude treatment of minorities and privileged treatment of uppers. The minorities are rising to equal stature in the society. They are getting education job opportunities everything.
Have you seen any company which says "Only General can apply?" I don't think so. Well then why this much reservation? What reservation has actually did in many places is that less meritorious greater success during to their caste. If this thing is eradicated, you know what will happen?
India will be at the zenith of development. Let me tell you a fact. In a few government offices the senior post is held by candidates scoring say 50% while their juniors are just sitting idle scoring 90% in the same exam. Why? Because that 50% are minorities. Think over what would be the situation without reservation.
So, do we need reservation? Yes we do. We need reservation for the poor. We need reservation for those who are financially unable afford education and hence job. We need policies that work for their upliftment. Not for those who are just born with privileges.
Support those who are not able to afford education and are deprived of job opportunities because of their financial conditions, not because of their caste and all. Let us #jointhemovement not against reservation based on casteism but towards a policy system that would encourage the poor to prosper in studies.
